# Top-ups and rate limits

> Buy top-up credits, understand when they are consumed, and distinguish plan credits from short-term rate-limit windows.

Top-up credits are prepaid extra credits. Personal top-ups belong to your personal credit account. Team credit purchases belong to the selected team credit account and follow that team's access rules.

## Buy top-up credits

1. Open `strawberry://settings/account`.
2. Click **Buy Top-Ups**.
3. Choose quantity with the plus and minus buttons.
4. Click **Add credits**.
5. Confirm the purchase.

Credits are added after successful payment.

You can also buy top-up credits from the web account billing page.

If you have more than one credit account, check **Credit account** before purchasing so the credits are added to the intended balance. Switching accounts later does not move existing credits.

## Automatic top-ups

Automatic top-ups add prepaid credits when your personal balance drops below a threshold you choose.

To configure automatic top-ups:

1. Open `strawberry://settings/pricing` or the web account billing page.
2. Find **Automatic top-ups**.
3. Turn the setting on.
4. Choose the credit threshold, the amount to add, and a monthly spending limit.
5. Confirm the payment method and save changes.

Automatic top-ups use your saved payment method. If the card is declined or no payment method is available, Strawberry turns automatic top-ups off and shows the reason in billing settings.

## When top-ups are used

Top-up credits are used after your plan's included monthly credits run out.

Top-up credits do not expire at month end.

## Plan credits versus rate limits

Plan credits are your included monthly usage.

Rate-limit windows are shorter-term controls that can appear during intensive use. A rate-limit window can temporarily block or slow additional work even if you still have monthly credits.

In chat, open the content panel to see credits used by the current chat, account credits left, and any active rate-limit window.

## How to reduce usage

* Ask for a small sample first.
* Scope the number of rows, companies, pages, or candidates.
* Ask for a plan before execution.
* Reuse memory and skills instead of repeating long context.
* Use connected apps and files directly instead of pasting huge text blocks.
* Stop or steer a chat if it is solving the wrong task.

## Team overage

Team overage is separate from personal top-ups. Team overage credits are billed at \$10 per 1,000 credits when enabled and when members exceed included credits.
