Chat is the main place where you talk to companions, attach files, reference tabs, review work, and continue tasks.

Chat history

Chat history is saved to your Strawberry account and restored across signed-in Strawberry clients. Chat titles and lightweight metadata are stored separately from the encrypted chat payload. Messages, drafts, and detailed chat data are encrypted before they are saved on Strawberry servers. History search can find chat titles and conversation text. Results depend on what has been indexed on this device, so older chats may take time to appear.

Queued follow-ups

When a chat is already responding, you can type another message and send it. Strawberry adds it to that chat’s queue. Queued messages:
  • Run one at a time in the order sent.
  • Stay specific to the current chat.
  • Include their own attachments, files, selected text, windows, and tabs.
  • Show a short text preview above the chat input.
When a queued message starts running, it leaves the visible queue. Remaining items stay visible.

Steer a queued message

Click Steer on a queued message to make it run next. Strawberry stops the current response and sends the steered message first. Other queued messages stay queued.

Stop and send immediately

Press Cmd+Enter on macOS or Ctrl+Enter on Windows/Linux while a chat is responding to stop the current response and send the typed message immediately instead of queueing it. If the chat input is empty and queued messages are waiting, pressing Enter stops the current response and sends the next queued message.

Attach files and context

You can paste an image or file into chat, drag files or folders onto the input, or use the file picker. Strawberry copies attachments into the chat before sending so the companion can see them and open the saved files. A new chat waits for that copy to finish before it opens. If Strawberry cannot prepare an attachment, your message and attachments stay in the input so you can retry or remove the file. You can also give a companion tab context, selected text, files, or explicit instructions about what to inspect. When chat is open next to a page, Strawberry automatically includes the visible page context when you send. In split view, both visible pages are included. Selected text from the focused pane appears in the input like other selected text; current-page page chips appear after the message is sent. Use @ in the chat input to mention apps, open website tabs, and full Chats. The tab list includes top-level website tabs that can host Chat and standalone Chats. Open pages inside a Chat stay with that Chat instead of appearing as separate top-level choices. Chats use their current titles, so you can find them by name.

Companion selection

Use the companion picker in chat to choose who should handle the task. Press Cmd + . on macOS or Ctrl + . on Windows to cycle through companions. Use Shift to cycle backward.

Planning complex work

Ask your companion to draft an approach before acting when a task has important assumptions, risks, or several phases. A plan can be lightweight in chat or durable as a PLAN.md file with reviewable todos for substantial work.
